Eyjolfur has been involved in horses almost since he could walk, from the age of 5 to 18, he spent summers in the country with his uncle who was a very competent horseman. During these years Eyjolfur learned horsemanship and riding the old traditional Icelandic way.

At the age of 18 Eyjolfur won the most desirable award, the "Silver-shoe" given to the trainer of the year at
Holar University sponsored by the biggest newspaper in Iceland. Ever since, horses have been his livelihood.

In 1985 Eyjolfur got his certificate
as a "Master Trainer" the most advanced diploma obtainable by The Association of Icelandic Horse Trainers, FT. Today there are only five Icelandic Master Trainers.

Eyjolfur has been active in formatting new competitions, for example the "Pace Test", which he made together with Friðþjófur Þorkelsson. "Pace Test" is one of the most popular sporting events for the Icelandic horse in the world today. Eyjolfur is the man behind the first "colt starting competition" on Iceland.

Eyjolfur is a very successful competition rider in Iceland as well as in Europe and his triumphs are numberless. One of the most remarkable triumphs is the World Record in Tölt Competition from the year 1978 on Hlynur from Bringa, a record which is still unbeaten.

Eyjolfur´s career is a mission to gather new knowledge and finding better methods to train and ride the Icelandic horse. Every year, he travels in Europe and the US to keep up-to-date with the latest development and to examine how other trainers and instructors work. The horsemen who has impressed Eyjolfur most are Ray Hunt and Walter Zettl.
